Uh-Oh…

It looks like you found one of our old blog entries. Outlier had been around long enough that some of our older articles just aren’t as relevant as they used to be. Thanks, technology!

Not to worry. We have plenty of fresh content for you to enjoy. If you’d like to read some of our newer articles, check them out below:

A Blueprint for Culture: Being Strategic About Team Video

This article was written by Outlier Founder Ben Friedle. It was originally published on Production Hub. The article aims to help teams evenly distribute organizational messages with the exact same clarity for each viewer using the power of video. Arguably, video is the best medium for both value and vision alignment based on its ability to persuade, inform, convey emotion, and provide visual delight.   If you want to deliver messages about your organization’s values, service, or achievement of goals, this article outlines a blueprint for creating a successful video communication strategy. This isn’t about training and procedures, this is about the alignment of your strategic…

The Lies of Wistia

Recently there has been a dramatic increase in video platform companies pushing the idea that you don’t need to spend a lot of money on video. In a recent campaign, Wistia, a video platform company,  asserts that it partnered with Sandwich Video to create three versions of the same video with different budgets: 1k, 10k, and 100k.  Wistia’s goal: to persuade its current and prospective clients (you) that you don’t need to spend a lot of money on video.  The messaging alone already bothered me, but I decided to do a little digging because those price points and the corresponding videos just did not match…

NAB 2019: 8K and LED Screens

This year was my first year attending NAB on behalf of Outlier. After coming down from euphoria akin to that of a kid in a toy shop, I got down to the business of soaking up information. Here are some of the takeaways from the sessions and talks I attended (which in no way represents the whole of NAB … it’s a huge conference.) 8k: Yes, It’s Coming It’s already here, really. What I gleaned from this particular session was that 4k delivery systems are coming and that soon we are going to see a demand for shooting in 8k for a 4k end deliverable.…

Should You Include Volunteer Work in Your Marketing?

Last week, Outlier joined several other downtown Portland businesses for an evening of volunteering. We enjoyed Hawaiian BBQ and a few brief introductions from event organizers before getting down to the task at hand for the evening: assembling cold weather kits for Street Roots vendors.  Business for a Better Portland spearheaded several of these events across Portland this holiday season. This particular evening was hosted by Noah Oken-Berg and his team at Above the Fray Design. Street Roots creates income opportunities for people experiencing homelessness and poverty. The paper is sold by members of the local homeless community, who receive 75 cents for every $1…

Maybe your latest report about employee productivity showed the business could be a little more… productive? Unfortunately, your big initiative idea can go exactly nowhere if you don’t get the buy-in you need. And you will need a lot, from the employees you’re looking to inspire, the managers who will reinforce and guide the initiative day-to-day, and…

3 Ways Video Will Make YOU a More Effective Leader

Strong leadership is crucial for a successful and profitable business. Everyone knows this, and everyone preaches it. But do these claims reflect reality? 58% of managers claim they have received no management training (CareerBuilder).58% of employees say they trust strangers more than their boss (Harvard Business Review).According to Gallup, as many as 70% of workers aren’t engaged at work. I could go on with these shocking-not-so-shocking statistics that paint a rather unenthusiastic portrait of corporate America, but the bottom line is that most workplaces are lacking in some major ways. If you're looking to connect with your teams, increase employee productivity and create greater job…
